Manchester United reportedly want to keep defender

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho wants to keep Phil Jones at the club this summer, according to the Guardian.

The report claims Jones would be happy to stay at the club as he isn’t concerned about his lack of playing time under Mourinho so far.

Stoke City confirmed their interest in signing the player two days ago, but it seems like Jones will spend at least another season at Old Trafford.

Arsenal, who seem desperate to strengthen their defense this month, are also believed to be following Jones’ situation.

Jones has been struggling with injuries since the start of last season, but it appears as though Mourinho is keen to keep him at the club.

The 24-year-old centre-back is well down the pecking order at United, but the Red Devils are yet to enter the domestic cups and Europa League, so the team’s fringe players will get enough chances to play and impress Mourinho over the coming months.

Even though the report suggests Jones is an essential part of Mourinho’s plans, that’s probably not the case as he’s yet to make the matchday squad this season.

However, if he manages to get over his injury troubles, he could be a useful player to have in the squad.
