Official: Manchester United complete transfer with Championship side

Old Trafford

Derby County have announced the signing of Manchester United striker James Wilson on a season-long loan deal without an option to buy.

The 20-year-old will spend the rest of the season at the ambitious Championship team.

Derby County’s manager, Nigel Pearson, has expressed his delight at securing the services of Wilson, thanking Manchester United for allowing the striker to join his team.

“We’re delighted to have agreed to bring James Wilson to the club on a season-long loan,” Pearson told the club’s official website.

“I hope that this loan deal will prove to be mutually beneficial for all parties and I would like to place on record our thanks to Manchester United for allowing James to join us.

“He is an energetic player who will add to our existing attacking options.”

Wilson, who wasn’t given a squad number at United last month, will now hope to impress at Pride Park this season and establish himself in Pearson’s first team.

It’s a very good move for Wilson. He couldn’t realistically hope to feature in United’s first team this season, so it’s a good decision to move to another club in search of valuable playing time.

If he manages to impress in the Championship, Mourinho would probably give him another chance to prove his worth at Old Trafford next summer as the young striker is believed to be highly-rated by the Portuguese manager.
