Report: Real Madrid back in the race for Manchester United target

Paul Pogba

Real Madrid have asked Paul Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, for more time as the 11-time European champions try to think of a way to meet Juventus’ €120m asking price for the French midfielder, according to Spanish newspaper AS.

The report claims Manchester United are very close to completing the deal for Pogba, but the midfielder is in no hurry to rubber stamp his return to Old Trafford as he still dreams of playing for Real Madrid.

However, the newspaper goes on to suggest that the Spanish giants are running out of time as they’re finding it very difficult to finance the deal.

Real Madrid’s gross debt is estimated at €620m, so they’ll have to be very careful with their transfer strategy.

The European champions’ debt reportedly means that they’d have to sell a couple of players for big feels in order to finance the Pogba deal, which is said to be very unlikely.

It appears as though Manchester United are the clear favourites for Pogba’s signature, but the midfielder’s reported desire to play for Real Madrid could jeopardize United’s plans.

It all depends on Pogba’s wishes. If he wants to play under his idol Zinedine Zidane and is prepared to wait for Madrid’s offer, then a move to United is unlikely to materialize.
