Manchester United have failed in their attempts to sign Valencia midfielder Andre Gomes, according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.
The report claims Manchester United had made a bid for the Portuguese international, but it’s been rejected by the Spaniards as they want €65m for the player.
The newspaper goes on to suggest there are other interested clubs, but Real Madrid are the favourites for Gomes’ signature as Florentino Perez has a very good relationship with Valencia’s owner, Peter Lim.
22-year-old Gomes, who moved to Valencia two years ago, played 5 games for Portugal at Euro 2016, but didn’t feature in his country’s historic win over France in the European Championship final earlier this month.
The talented midfielder scored 3 goals and provided 3 assists in 30 appearances for Valencia last season.
Gomes is an energetic midfielder with an eye for a goal and he’d certainly improve United’s midfield, but given the Red Devils’ reported pursuit of Paul Pogba this summer, the Portuguese player is unlikely to end up at Old Trafford.
