Report: Besiktas make loan move for Manchester United flop

Besiktas have made a move to sign Bastian Schweinsteiger on a season-long loan deal, according to Turkish Super Lig broadcaster LigTV.

The report suggests the Turkish champions want to make a high-prolife signing to celebrate the opening of their new stadium, the Vodafone Arena, and have identified the 31-year-old former Bayern Munich midfielder as a key transfer target this summer.

Besiktas are believed to have switched their attention to Schweinsteiger following their failure to secure the services of Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben.

Schweinsteiger, who only made 21 appearances in all competitions for United last season, has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford in recent weeks, even though he’s still on vacation and is yet to meet Mourinho face-to-face.

The German is still a quality player when fit. Even though he had to endure a frustrating 2015/16 season, he deserves a chance to impress Mourinho.

However, Schweinsteiger would have a better chance of being a regular starter at Besiktas and he’d also be able to play Champions League football next season.

If Mourinho decides to offload Schweinsteiger this summer, a season-long loan deal would be a good move for all parties involved, especially if Besiktas agree to pay his wages in full.
