Midfielder admits doubts over his future at Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has admitted that he could leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window, as per This is Anfield.

Signed by former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez in the summer of 2007, the Brazilian holding midfielder has made 222 League appearances for Liverpool in the past 9 years.

While he was signed as a replacement for the outgoing Xabi Alonso – who left Liverpool for Real Madrid, Lucas has always been a source of argument among the Liverpool faithful.

Although a minority of Liverpool fans still rate him highly, the majority believe that Klopp should sell the Brazilian in the next 2 months.

Thus, at a time when Liverpool have fortified their midfielder with the signing of Marko Grujic, Lucas has clearly stated that he is unsure about his future.

“It is the first transfer window that Klopp will participate in more actively in for Liverpool, so I’ll have a better idea when I return” Lucas told Radio Jovem Pan.

“Whatever happens, the idea, as always, is to remain in Europe, mainly in England, which has a very strong and good league to play in.”

In addition to Grujic, the likes of Joe Allen, Emre Can, and James Milner will all be fighting with Lucas for a place in the Liverpool starting XI.

Also, if we take a look at the form factor, the aforementioned trio comes ahead of Lucas in the pecking order.

Thus, if Jurgen Klopp decides to replace the 29-year-old, many Liverpool fans will back this decision of the German manager.
