Rochdale have announced the signing of Manchester United midfielder Oliver Rathbone on their official website.
The 19-year-old midfielder, whose contract with Manchester United expires next week, has joined Rochdale on a one-year deal, effective from July 1st.
Manchester United confirmed Rathbone’s release when they announced their released and retained list 2 weeks ago.
Rathbone has expressed his delight at signing for the League One club and has admitted his desire for regular first-team football had played a major part in his decision to join Keith Hill’s team this summer.
“I’m very pleased to be here,” said Rathbone.
“When I foundout I was leaving Manchester United, I spoke to my coach about potential clubs. He told me that Rochdale have great people and that it was a great club to come and play football at.
“[I also know that young players are given opportunities here] – that was one of the main factors in coming to a League One club. I want the chance to play football.
“When I met with the Gaffer he told me that I’d have to come in and prove myself but if I was doing well then I’d get my chance. That’sall I really want.”

Rochdale finished the 2015/16 League One season in 10th place with 69 points from 46 games, only 5 points behind the play-off positions.
The League One club will surely look to make another push for promotion next season and Rathbone could help them realize their ambitions.
The youngster leaves United after a 3-year spell at Old Trafford and can now look forward to continuing his development as a player at Spotland Stadium.
