Ashley Fletcher is set to leave Manchester United after turning down the club’s contract offer, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The report suggests Fletcher, whose contract is due to expire next week, could still opt to stay at Old Trafford, but he’s aware of the interest in him and his permanent departure appears to be the most likely conclusion at this moment in time.

Leeds United are believed to be fancying their chances of luring the striker to Elland Road this summer, but they’re likely to face competition for his signature as Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bristol City and Barnsley are also reportedly interested in the 20-year-old.

Fletcher expressed his desire to establish himself at Manchester United a few weeks ago, but it appears as though he’s changed his mind and now looks set for a move to the Championship.

If the Leeds-based newspaper’s information is genuine, Fletcher’s decision to move on is somewhat understandable.

He made a very good impression at Barnsley last season, so he obviously wants to continue playing first-team football next season in order to further his development.

Even if Fletcher renews his deal at United, the Red Devils would most probably loan him out again, so maybe the striker wants to hold his future in his own hands and carefully pick his next destination.
