Scoring the opening goal of the tournament was a delight for Olivier Giroud. The Arsenal Striker opened the account for France against Romania in the first Group Stage match of the EURO 2016. Giroud put up a dominant display and was a nuisance for the Romanian defenders.

He has scored 8 goals in last 6 starts for the French National team and has been a key contributor in the absence of Benzema.

The first-half saw France creating a number of chances, but failing to convert any of them into goals. Finally, a fine effort by another EPL player, Dimtri Payet, enabled him to lob the ball towards the penalty spot, where Giroud used his physicality and headed the ball into the net.

Giroud’s strength proved to be a big plus for France, as his constant tugging created pressure on the Romanian defense. Giroud featured for the full 90 minutes, as he held the attacking reign for France alongside Antoine Griezmann, who had a quite game.

For Giroud, it has been a great start to the tournament and it will be a huge boost for France if he manages to carry on his form throughout the tournament.
