Manchester United have made a £60 million bid for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, according to The Sun.
The report suggests United are willing to break the British transfer record to sign Pogba, which they already broke two years ago by paying £59.7m for Angel Di Maria, but will have to beat Barcelona to the Frenchman’s signature.
Mourinho is believed to be keen to kick-start the rebuilding of his team and apparently Pogba is at the top of the Portuguese manager’s list of transfer targets this summer.
The 23-year-old, who will represent France in this month’s European Championship, spent 3 years at Manchester United before deciding to join Juventus on a free transfer in 2012.
Since Pogba’scontroversial move to Juventus, for which Sir Alex Ferguson accused the Frenchman of “disrespecting” Manchester United, he’s established himself as one of the best midfielders in European football and is constantly being linked with big-money moves to various European giants.
Pogba would be a brilliant addition to the United squad, but the transfer would be very hard to pull off. If we assume United’s interest is genuine, Woodward would face an uphill task to bring the player back to Old Trafford. He’d have to tempt Juventus into selling their prized asset and then convince Pogba that returning to Manchester United would be the best move for his career.
The transfer doesn’t look very realistic right now, but working with Mourinho could be tempting for Pogba. The player professed his love for United in an interview with Sky Sports at the start of 2015.
Woodward and Mourinho could potentially use Pogba’s feelings towards the club to convince him that he has unfinished business at Manchester United.
