RMC Sport (via FFN) reports that Arsenal are in talks to sign Medhi Benatia. RMC Sports claims that an official bid will be lodged next week. The Moroccan international has had a tough two years in Germany, making only 29 league appearances for Bayern Munich.

Bayern’s signing of Mats Hummels could signal an end to Benatia’s Bayern Munich career. Furthermore, with Mertesacker turning 32 and Koscielny turning 31, it appears that Arsenal are in the market for a center-back and the Gunners will thus be hoping to secure Benatia’s services.

Arsene Wenger is looking bolster his defense ahead of next season and Benatia fits the bill perfectly. The 29-year-old could bring in much needed experience at the back. He is strong, good in the air, and has great pace needed to succeed in England.

Bayern signed Benatia for £20m from Roma in 2014 and they are looking to make a profit if they sell him with three years left on his contract. With reported interest from Chelsea and Manchester United, this could turn in to a bidding battle between three rivals.
