Report: Chelsea forced to wait until 2017 to sign Broussia Dortmund star

Mkhitaryan

Chelsea target Henrikh Mkhitaryan to stay put at Borussia Dortmund till 2017, according to reports from the BILD

Premier League giants Chelsea are set to go through a revolution under incoming manager Antonio Conte over the summer and a number of players have already started being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge over the past few weeks.

Mkhitaryan to stay at Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund star Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been mentioned as one of the main targets for Conte and it was believed that Chelsea would be able to sign the Armenian international as he has entered the final year of his contract at the Signal Iduna Park.

As a huge blow to Chelsea’s hopes though, it has now been revealed that Dortmund are keen on holding on to Mkhitaryan till the end of the upcoming season even if it means losing him for free.

According to the BILD, Dortmund are not ready to sell Mkhitaryan as they are set to lose the services of Mats Hummels and Ilkay Gundogan this summer and the Bundesliga side are taking a stand on the attacking midfielder despite him rejecting a new contract offer recently.

Conte is said to be very keen on signing Mkhitaryan but it looks like the Italian will have to wait until at least January 2017 in order to sign the 27-year-old.
