Who would have thunk after the up and down season Louis van Gaal and Manchester United have endured that there is a very slim chance that United can squeak into the top 4.
Quite simply United have to win against Bournemouth and Manchester City have to lose to Swansea in order for the Red Devils to finish fourth.
After trading the Premier League trophy for a few seasons, both Manchester clubs have fallen from grace since Chelsea beat them both out for the title last season.
United will need a huge favor from Swansea this weekend at the Liberty Stadium, however, stats show that Manuel Pellegrini’s men should take care of business having defeated the Swans nine out of the ten matches played since 2011.
Here is how United will line up in their last Premier League match of the season –
Goalkeeper
With the rabid crowd at Upton Park, David de Gea looked a bit shaky on a couple of the goals that went by the Spanish keeper but was hardly at fault for the opener. De Gea will certainly finish the league season in goal.
Defence
Guillermo Varela hasn’t featured for the first team in quite some time but with the tradition of playing the younger players on the last day of the season, we should see him feature as right back on the day. Under -21’s Player of the Year, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson plays on the left side of the defence.
Daley Blind had one of his worst games in a United uniform against West Ham so the overworked Blind should make his way back to the bench and rest before the FA Cup Final. Timothy Fosu-Mensah could be the one to replace Blind if the younger Dutchman can make his way back to full health and be joined by Chris Smalling in the center of defence.
Midfield
Defender turned defensive midfielder, Paddy McNair will be joined with Ander Herrera and both will sit in front of the back four with Herrera being asked to aid in the attack. McNair could be a future long term defensive midfield option with the likes of Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger getting up there in age and Morgan Schneiderlin continuing to be inconsistent.
Look for van Gaal to deploy a young attacking midfield this Sunday with Adnan Januzaj, Andreas Pereira, and Anthony Martial expected to feature. Martial will be the one van Gaal will look to for goals and to power the Red Devils to victory at Old Trafford.
Forward
The last young starlet to feature will be Marcus Rashford, whose nose for goal has been noticed and could potentially earn him an England call up in the near future. Rashford was starved of service during the week but with a young attacking midfield looking to prove themselves the teenager should see some more balls come his way.
