2. David De Gea
Oh fax machine, we love you dearly.
Absolutely unimaginable thinking about if that fax machine had worked and the deal had gone through. After playing Sergio Romero at the start of the season and signing Victor Valdes, De Gea’s future at Old Trafford seemed shaky even when the transfer window was over, but after regaining the starting spot, he has fully demonstrated why he is arguably the best goalkeeper in the world.
Crucial saves against Swansea, Watford and Liverpool helped to save United multiple times. His penalty save against Everton in the FA Cup semi-final was more than impressive and it allowed United to go on and win the game.
Without big Spanish Dave and his magnificent saves, United’s season would have been long gone a while ago. Watching him blossom into such a world-class goalkeeper, with the help of that fax machine I mentioned, has been delightful. He could easily be top of this list as the top contender to win the Player of the Season award.
Qué hombre!
