Manchester United’s ‘Man of the Match’ in the 1-1 draw against Leicester City

Louis van Gaal’s men put in a great first half against potential Premier League Champions, Leicester City, however, a draw would be the outcome as Manchester United prevented a title winning celebration for the Foxes at Old Trafford.

United would strike first in the 8th minute as Anthony Martial got on the end of a beautiful outside footed pass from Antonio Valencia to slot home the goal against keeper, Kasper Schmeichel.

The momentum stayed with the home team until the 17th minute, when Wes Morgan broke away from the suspect defending of left back Marcos Rojo to head the equalizing goal past David de Gea.

The high profile matched would not end without some controversy, as Marouane Fellaini and Robert Huth would battle throughout the encounter with the big Belgian caught giving Huth an elbow to the throat after Huth pulled on Fellaini’s hair.

United had one last chance steal all three points when Memphis Depay subbed on for the ineffective Marcus Rashford in the 82nd minute. Danny Drinkwater would take down Memphis on the line of the penalty box, but referee Michael Oliver would whistle for a free kick just outside the box and booking Drinkwater for the second time of the match, resulting in his dismissal.

Player of the match honors goes to Anthony Martial, who gets on the score sheet and now has taken his tally to 15 goals on the season in all competitions, which according to Squawka tops all Manchester United players. Martial looked strong throughout the match, finishing with two shots and converting his one shot on goal extremely well.

With Manchester City blowing their chance to distant themselves from United even further with a 4-2 loss to Southampton, United have a second chance to close the gap on the top 4 when they travel to Norwich City this weekend.
