Luis Suarez

Fresh off a master performance that included four goals and three assists in a 8-0 rout of Deportivo La Coruna, Barcelona striker Luis Suarez spoke to the media, saying he’s looking forward to the challenge of winning both La Liga and the Copa del Rey trophies for his club this season, according to the official team site.

The Uruguayan national joined Barcelona from Liverpool in 2014 for a reported fee of £65 million, and has had an impressive season so far, managing 49 goals in 48 appearances for his club. His four goals against Deportivo sees him pass Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo season tally of 47.

Speaking to the media on his accomplishment, the striker stated, “I enjoy spending every day in the best team in the world, and it is an honour to have surpassed one of the footballing greats. But it is of course impossible to beat Messi’s records.”

Barcelona currently sit in first place in La Liga table, tied with Atletico Madrid on 79 points. Real Madrid find themselves in third place, trailing by a single point with just four fixtures remaining. The leaders will face seventh-placed Sevilla in the Copa del Rey final on May 22nd.
