Undoubtedly, Kevin De Bruyne is one of the players that Chelsea regretted selling right after they let him go. While speaking to Daily Telegraph, the 24-year-old revealed the real reason that led to the fallout between him and the then Club manager Jose Mourinho.

“He called in all the attacking midfielders. He showed us stats of his six players- assists, goals, passing percentage, key passes, dribbles. He wanted to prove I didn’t perform on the level of the others”, said the ex-Chelsea player.

De Bruyne considered Mourinho’s analysis an unfair one as he played fewer games as compared to other players. He further adds that his emotions as a footballer were hurt, despite performing well he was benched.

“Mourinho told me he wasn’t keen to let me go,” replied De Bruyne who then wanted a transfer away from Stamford Bridge. Before joining Wolfsburg, he was asked to join them on a loan, he accepted, but then declined the proposal and decided to go on a permanent deal. The mid-fielder went on to score 16 goals and assisted 28 times while playing a crucial part in helping Wolfsburg to reach Champions League and winning DFB-Pokal.

The Belgian is one of the best attacking mid-fielders in Europe right now. Chelsea sold Kevin De Bruyne to Vfl Wolfsburg and one year later Manchester City brought him back to the Premier League. He has played a big role in Manchester City’s squad this season and has proven to be an engine for the side which has clearly struggled in his absence. Selling Kevin De Bruyne has proven to be one of the worst decisions taken by ex-Blues’ boss Jose Mourinho.
