As expected, Chelsea will be looking to rebuild their defence this summer. According to Darren Lewis of the Mirror and the Bild, the 27-year-old Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels is a target of Antonio Conte who is largely tipped to be Chelsea’s Coach next season.
Borussia Dortmund is expected to demand around £27.6million of transfer fee. German newspaper Bild reported that Chelsea has contacted Hummels’ father Hermann, who manages the business dealings for his son.
Mats Hummels was very impressive in Germany’s World Cup campaign. He is the kind of defender who loves to dribble to burst forward. The German Centre Back has an impressive passing accuracy of 89.1%, overall this season.
In addition to his attacking prowess, Hummels has been very consistent in his defensive duties, averaging 66% duels won.
Though, there is a big question mark over the transfer as the Germany International is happy at Dortmund who will play in Champions League next season, whereas Chelsea won’t. But a big money move will surely make him approve the move to London.
