Manchester United’s former captain Nemanja Vidic has returned to Old Trafford and will play a key role in the club’s tour this summer in China. The Serbian recently retired in January after a short spell with Inter Milan in the the Serie A.

Vidic and defensive partner, Rio Ferdinand served as United’s preferred defensive pairing during the latter part of the Sir Alex Ferguson era and then one season under David Moyes.

According to The Independent, the ambassador role that Vidic will be assuming was recently announced on the club’s Instagram account. His role will be helping the launch of Manchester United tour in China.

Other Premier Clubs are such as Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City, and Liverpool are expected to feature as well in the International Champions Cup tournament, which United has been a part of the last few summers.

Supporters of the club may want Vidic the player, who is arguably one of the best ever center-backs, to power them through the last couple months of the season in order to qualify for Champions League football next term, but they’ll just have to settle for the Serbian in United colours away from the pitch.

Dates and venues for the tour to China have yet to be revealed, but it is reported that United will face Manchester City while on the tour.
