Strongest Possible Manchester United Lineup vs Swansea City: 4-2-3-1 with Rooney to lead line

Old Trafford

After drawing against Chelsea this past Monday and putting in an improved performance, Louis van Gaal may be safe for another week. While United will be happy that their performance was better against the reigning Premier League Champions, they must be earn three points every match against bottom of the table clubs in order for them to compete for a top four finish and an outside shot at the title.

United welcome Swansea City, a club that has also struggled this season, after such a promising start to begin the campaign. To get back on track for 2016, United must pounce on the lowly Swans, and get back to playing attractive football.

Goalkeeper

David de Gea has been in the news once again with a move away from Old Trafford, and with United struggling at the moment, the Spaniard may be tempted with a move Real Madrid. For now, he starts at Old Trafford and remains van Gaal’s prized possession.

Right-Back

Makeshift right back, Ashley Young enjoyed a solid match against Chelsea this past Monday and will look to continue to apply his trade. His performances of late have been much improved.

Center-Backs

The pair of Chris Smalling and Daley Blind enjoyed a decent outing against Chelsea, but by no means their best match as defensive partners. With Smalling and Blind looking to be the most trusted partnership, Phil Jones remains on the outside looking in.

Left-Back

Matteo Darmian made his return to the starting 11 and attacked well, but was lacking the killer cross. Darmian’s play has dipped since the start of the season, however, it hasn’t stopped the interest of some high-profile Italian clubs seeking his services.

Defensive Midfield

The Red Devils normally look like the better side when Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin are the pairing, so look for them to continue that partnership this Saturday. Schweinsteiger was a bit rusty after his three match ban, but his influence did grow in the second half.

Attacking Midfield

Juan Mata, Ander Herrera, and Anthony Martial enjoyed an electric start to the match against Chelsea, with Mata clipping the post in the early stages. This match against Swansea should be the one that we see this attacking trio open the floodgates and score some much needed goals for the Red Devils.

Forward

Despite not scoring for yet another match, the returning Wayne Rooney did play a bit better, and was the one who set up Mata with a lovely pass, which saw Mata clipping the crossbar. Rooney provided a harsh tackle on Oscar and some argued that he should of seen a red card for the foul, so the England International may counting his blessings that he will be able to suit up this weekend.
