Spanish giants Real Madrid are eyeing a swoop for Mesut Ozil, with the future of James Rodriguez in doubt
Ozil joined Arsenal from Real Madrid during the summer of 2013 for a club record fee of around £43million and it goes without saying that a lot was expected from the German international at the Emirates Stadium.
However, Ozil struggled to find consistency during the initial stages of his spell at Arsenal and many felt at the time that the Gunners’ investment in the former Werder Bremen star was not going to pay off.
During the current campaign though, Ozil has really managed to come into the fore and has arguably been the best midfielder in Europe, as evidenced by his stunning 12 assists in the Premier League so far this season.
Ozil being courted by Real Madrid
Now considered one of the most integral parts of the Arsenal side, Ozil will surely be key in the North London giant’s title aspirations.
While Ozil seems to very happy at the Emirates at the moment, it has not stopped the midfielder being linked with a move away from Arsenal and now according to reports, Spanish giants Real Madrid are looking to bring back the 27-year old to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Ozil was unceremoniously sold by Madrid a few seasons ago to raise funds to sign Gareth Bale but following the playmaker’s brilliant run of form for Arsenal this season, the Los Blancos want him back at the club.
It is believed that current Madrid manager Rafael Benitez is not convinced by James Rodriguez and the Spaniard wants to replace the Colombian star with Ozil.
