Strongest Possible Liverpool Lineup vs Newcastle United: 4-2-3-1 with Sturridge Starting

Sturridge

After beating Southampton by 6-1 and proceeding to the semi-final of Capital One Cup, Liverpool will travel to North East this Sunday to face a Newcastle United side who have been terrible under the former England manager, Steve McClaren this season,

Goalkeeper

Simon Mignolet

Despite his performance in the Europa league action, the Belgium international is no question still the Reds’ No.1 in goal for the clash against Newcastle.

Furthermore, as Mignolet is currently in talks over the contract extension with Liverpool according to ESPN FC, he is still in the long-term plans under the management of Jurgen Klopp.

Right Back

Nathaniel Clyne

The English right back is having a fine spell under Klopp. In addition, Clyne proves that he is capable of delivering consistent performance week in and out. With 1.9 interceptions per game, Clyne is only behind Martin Skrtel (2.1), with 0.2  margin per game among other Liverpool defenders.

Center Backs

Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren will partner up at the back against Newcastle United on Sunday. The absence of Mamadou Sakho will give Lovren a chance to redeem his reputation in the Red shirt.

Left Back

Alberto Moreno

The 23-year-old Spaniard arguably has been one of the most influential players in Reds’ fine form under Klopp. In the previous league match against Swansea City, he created three chances, had five tackles and five interceptions.

In addition, as Moreno delivered another great performance against Southampton, he will be the first left back choice for the Reds on Sunday against Newcastle United.

Holding Midfielders

Emre Can and Lucas Leiva will be the two ideal anchormen for Liverpool against Newcastle United. As the captain, Jordan Henderson, just returned to action and had a few minutes in Captal One Cup, Klopp might decide to bench Henderson, until he is fully recovered in order to prevent any further injury.

Attacking Midfielder

Adam Lallana

The former Southampton captain seems to have found a new lease of life on the field under Klopp. “He is getting out of me what Mauricio (Pochettino) asked me at Southampton,” Lallana said to The Daily Telegraph.

The English international has not managed any goal in league action, and perhaps it will change at St. James Park on this Sunday following by his fine form from the past two matches.

Wingers

James Milner and Roberto Firmino will be deployed as the two wings beside the lone striker on Sunday’s match against Newcastle United.

As Firmino presents the flair and creativity, and Milner symbolizes discipline and leadership, Liverpool will have plenty of opportunities to vary its attacking strategies against McClaren‘s Toon army.

Striker

Daniel Sturridge

The Reds’ ace returned and scored two goals in Capital One Cup action against Southampton. Sturridge once again proved to doubters that he is one of the top finishers in European football (soccer) as long as he is healthy, just as Klopp said in the interview that he must learn difference between “serious pain and only pain.”
