Manchester United have launched a bid for Juventus defender Daniele Rugani, according to reports from Sport Witness

Manchester United are expected to be very busy in the upcoming January transfer window and it is widely believed that manager Louis van Gaal will be looking to strengthen his backline with the addition of a new central defender.

A host of names have unsurprisingly been linked with a move to United already and recently, it had been claimed that the Red Devils were pondering a swoop for Juventus defender Daniele Rugani.

United’s bid for Rugani confirmed?

Previously co-owned by Empoli and Juventus, the latter bought out the remaining half of Rugani’s registration rights during the summer. Having enjoyed a fine campaign with Empoli last term, it was expected that Rugani would go on to become a regular at Juventus this season.

However, Rugani has been unable to beat off competition from the likes of Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Barzagli and has been limited to only a few minutes of action in the Champions League.

As a result, Rugani has been linked with a move away from Juventus in January and a host of Premier League clubs are said to have expressed their interest in the defender.

Reports claiming Manchester United’s interest in Rugani had emerged recently and now according to Sport Witness, it has been reported that the Red Devils have already placed a bid for the Italian youngster.

The details of the bid have not been disclosed by Sport Witness but it is believed that United will have to pay a minimum of £20million in order to land the services of the 21-year old.
