Manchester United planning a sensational managerial move to replace van Gaal

Manchester United will look to replace current manager Louis van Gaal with under fire Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, according to reports from the Daily Star

Louis van Gaal arrived at Manchester United at the start of last season amid much fanfare and it was widely expected that the Dutchman would go on to revive the Red Devils following the debacle under David Moyes.

Van Gaal did guide United back into the Champions League during his debut season at Old Trafford but despite spending nearly £300million over the last two seasons, the Red Devils look only marginally better than they did under Moyes.

Van Gaal not the most popular man in Manchester at the moment

In addition, Van Gaal’s possession based defensive tactics have not gone down too well with the fans and the Old Trafford faithful booed the 64-year old during United’s 1-0 Champions League victory over CSKA Moscow recently.

As a result of the defensive football as well as fan displeasure, the United hierarchy are having doubts regarding van Gaal and the Premier League side could well consider dispensing with the services of the Dutchman if the results as well as performances do not improve.

Mourinho could be next United manager

Now according to shock reports from the Daily Star, United are already looking at a potential replacement for van Gaal in the form of Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho is under immense pressure at Chelsea following the Blues’ poor start to the season and there is a strong possibility that the former Real Madrid could be sacked.

Despite the poor run though, there is no questioning Mourinho’s qualities as a manager and the Daily Star claim that United could well swoop in for the 52-year old if indeed he is shown the door by Chelsea.

Mourinho was one of the favourites to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at United back in 2013 and the Portuguese manager could well be open to the idea of joining the Old Trafford based outfit.
