Tottenham ramp up pursuit of exciting duo

Dailymail.co.uk has reported that Tottenham Hotspur sent a scout to Gent’s Champions League game vs. Valencia on Wednesday. The Lilywhites have been reported to be interested in Gent’s centre-forward Laurent Depoitre and left winger Moses Simon.

The Lilywhites have been monitoring the Gent duo rather closely this season. Depoitre is a big target-man standing at 6 ft. 3 in. In Belgium his playing style has often been compared to that of fellow Belgian Christian Benteke.

Simon on the other hand is a small, quick, and skilled winger. He has been dubbed by some as the “Nigerian Ronaldo.”

Spurs could offer Gent around £7 million for the Depoitre’s services. According to transfermarkt.com he’s valued £5.5 million. He would be a relatively cheaper option than Saido Berahino – who Tottenham were linked to this past summer. It’s no surprise to anyone that Spurs are in desperate need of another striker to take some of the load off of Englishman Harry Kane.

Gent have reportedly told Tottenham and Liverpool, who are also interested in Simon, that they will only talk business if the offer is £15 million. Transfermarkt.com has him valued at £4 million.

If Depoitre joined Spurs he would add to the list of Belgians that Tottenham have signed over the past couple years. Toby Alderweireld was the most recent Belgian to make the move to White Hart Lane. He joined former Ajax teammate, Jan Vertonghen along with Nacer Chadli and Mousa Dembele.

Andros Townsend’s future is up in the air at the moment after the winger got into it with fitness coach, Nathan Gardiner, this past week. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Townsend leaves the club in January. Simon could come in a fill that void left by the Englishman. The Nigerian winger’s preferred position is on the left side, however he is more than capable at playing on the right side of the pitch.

Both Depoitre and Simon are exciting possible addition to Pochettino’s squad and their statuses will continued to be monitored as January draws closer.
