With only one win from the last six games in all competitions, the pressure continues to mount on Jose Mourinho and his charges. For the first time in his successful managerial career, the Portuguese finds himself in a rather peculiar situation as he needs to start winning games to save his job at Chelsea.
The Special One is undoubtedly the best manager Chelsea has ever had. Now it remains to be seen whether Roman Abramovich will give him time to change the situation around and most pundits echo the same words that the Russian billionaire should not let Mourinho go.
In the defeats against West Ham in the league and Stoke City in the Capital One Cup there are some positives Mourinho took. At Upton Park the champions were the better team and looked like they were going to claim maximum points with a man down.
At Britannia, even though they were knocked out of the C1C Mourinho’s men produced one of their best performances thus far. Is that a sign of better days ahead for the Blues? One would think so because of the quality of they possess.
Before Mourinho came to Chelsea for his first stint in 2004, the club had won one title and that was in 1955. The Special One has gone on to win three league titles, three league cup titles and the FA Cup. During his time at Chelsea Mourinho has won more titles for the club than it did in its hundred years of existence and for that Mr Abramovich should give him time to change fortunes for the West Londoners.
In the current season he has had his own faults, but it would be naïve of Roman and his board of directors to sack Jose. In this predicament, one thing Chelsea needs more than anything is consistency and stability in the backroom staff. Any team can go through such a situation and it doesn’t start with Chelsea. Roman should keep Jose at Chelsea.
