Boost as Manchester United will be able to sign top target for £72million

Manchester United will be able to secure the services of Paris Saint-Germain star Marco Verratti for £72million, according to the Daily Star

On the basis of their strong start to the current campaign, one suspects that Manchester United will be able to challenge for the Premier League title this season.

That being said, Manchester City and Arsenal probably possess a better chance due to their squad depth and many believe that United will need to strengthen their ranks in order to be able to close the gap on their rivals.

United manager Louis van Gaal has already admitted that he will look to reinforce his squad in January. The Dutchman had recently revealed, “I have already said, in the transfer period, I could not buy every player I want and that’s also because of the market.

“I have said that we need creative, speedy players in attack. You have seen which players I have bought; I like that profile, but we need more.”

As a result, a host of players have already started being linked with a move to United and it was recently claimed that the Red Devils were eyeing a swoop for Paris Saint-Germain star Marco Verratti.

Verratti has established himself as one of the finest midfielders around in world football with his performances for PSG over the past two years and van Gaal is said to be a keen admirer of the Italian international.

Now in what is seemingly a boost to United’s hopes of signing Verratti, it has been revealed by representative, Donato Di Campli, that the midfielder could be available for around £72million.

“If Kevin De Bruyne signs for City for €80 (£57)million, then €100 (£72) million for Marco does not seem a heresy,” Di Campli told France Football. “I hear here and there that Pogba is €100m. For me, Verratti is worth as much.”

While £72million is certainly a whopping amount, United do have the financial power to be able to splash such a fee and it will be interesting to see if the Red Devils look to tempt PSG into selling Verratti this January.
