The Premier League is finally back after International break had wrapped up this past week, and the Red Devils will be ready to roar on their way to Goodison Park, where they’ll take on Everton. After climbing to first place in the league, Manchester United came crashing down after a tough 3-0 defeat against rival Arsenal. The last time United traveled to Everton they suffered a 3-0 defeat to the Toffees.
Everton come into the match fresh off a 1-1 draw against Merseyside rivals, Liverpool, which led to Brendan Rodgers’ sacking. Louis van Gaal’s may line up like this in what should be another great matchup between these two.
Goalkeeper
After conceding three goals against Arsenal a couple weeks ago, David de Gea, played brilliantly during his international match versus Ukraine, and will most certainly be United’s keeper on Saturday.
Left Back
The Dutchman, Daley Blind, who featured for the Netherlands during break will look to shift over from his center half position and will occupy left back on this occasion. The strength of Romelu Lukaku may be too much for Blind to handle in central defence, but van Gaal will want to keep the Blind for his well-known footballing smarts.
Center Backs
Phil Jones will be the man that will be one taking Blind’s usually spot central defence, and he and Chris Smalling will be the pair that must contend with Lukaku. Jones and Smalling, both Englishman, have long been touted as the future longstanding partnership for United. If both fair well in containing Lukaku and both stay fit, we could see this pairing more often.
Right Back
Matteo Darmian, who scored during a match for Italy during break, will most likely be on the right side of defence. Another option at right back is Antonio Valencia, who also did quite well for Ecuador, in a wide a roll.
Defensive Midfield
Michael Carrick and Morgan Schneiderlin will most likely feature in front of the back four, and will be the best available options. Bastian Schweinsteiger may miss this fixture as he returned injured from international duty.
Right Wing
Juan Mata was recently named Player of the Month for September, which was most deserving as he helped wake United’s stale attack that trouble them for the beginning of the campaign. The Spaniard will looked to make the offence tick with this upcoming match and also with Manchester City on the horizon as well. At this point, there is really no other option and the only question remains if he may be better suited playing in central attacking midfield.
Left Wing
Memphis Depay, who made headlines by getting into an altercation with former United striker, Robin Van Persie, during training for the Dutch national team, will likely play on the left wing. Depay’s Premier League struggles have been well documented and overall has had a difficult time adjusting at his new club.
Central Attacking Midfield
Wayne Rooney did not feature for England during their Euro Qualification matches, is at a point where he must step up and show doubters why he was named captain and has been trusted to return to form, even during his poor campaign. The former Everton Blue historically has found it difficult to perform well against his former club.
Forward
Anthony Martial, who has produced lots of magic for United will once again lead the line and will look to get back to his scoring ways.
