Strongest Possible Manchester United Lineup vs Wolfsburg: 4-4-1-1 with Martial and Rooney to star

Old Trafford

Despite all the criticism that has come Manchester United’s way this season; they have somehow managed to earn the desired results and are currently standing atop of the Premier League.

While United are still far from their best, they have been improving gradually and now the Red Devils will be hoping to translate their league form into the Champions League when they play hosts to German side Wolfsburg on Wednesday night.

Here is the Probable Strongest Possible Lineup for Manchester United against Wolfsburg –

Goalkeeper

David De Gea has been one of the primary reasons behind United’s wonderful upturn in fortunes and the Spaniard will undoubtedly be starting against Wolfsburg this weekend.

De Gea managed a clean sheet against Sunderland last time out and he will surely be hopeful of putting in another good performance to keep the dangerous Wolfsburg attack at bay as well.

Defence

Due to the injury crisis at left back, Matteo Darmian was shifted out to the left with Antonio Valencia coming in at right back against Sunderland and following a solid display, it is likely that manager Louis van Gaal will stick to the same full back combination against Wolfsburg as well.

In the central defensive position, the duo of Daley Blind and Chris Smalling have been performing very well and the duo should continue their partnership. Phil Jones made his long awaited return from injury during the clash against Sunderland and the England international will be hopeful of a start as well.

Midfield

With Michael Carrick starting during the clash against Sunderland, it is likely that Bastian Schweinsteiger will be handed a place in the starting lineup in midweek against Wolfsburg.

Morgan Schneiderlin will be the man at the middle of the park alongside Schweinsteiger while Ander Herrera will also be hopeful of earning a start.

In the wide positions, Memphis Depay and Juan Mata have been in sensational form and it would not be a surprise if the duo retain their place in the lineup while the impressive Ashley Young will also be hopeful of featuring on the night.

Attack

Wayne Rooney finally managed his first Premier League goal of the season against Sunderland and he will now be hoping to push on in the coming weeks.

Rooney most certainly has benefitted from the arrival of teenage sensation Anthony Martial and the duo will be hopeful of wreaking havoc on the Wolfsburg backline.
