According to Spanish newspaper AS, renowned agent Jorge Mendes is in Manchester to try to unblock the David De Gea transfer to Real Madrid. This is an ongoing story dating back to the end of the 2014/15 season and it’s been an and off frequently, with some speculating the transfer will be pushed until 2016.
The Portuguese agent has a long history with Real Madrid, as he brought the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, José Mourinho, Fábio Coentrão, Ángel Di María and others to the Bernabéu. There’s been some tension in recent times with the Falcao case and some extracurricular activities with CR7. However, they know they need each other at the moment if they hope to have a win-win.
The Red Devils have been a very tough negotiator this summer and although they’ve made some great signings like Depay, they’re being firm with Real.
Especially after the Ramos story, Bale’s denial to join and Ronaldo’s to return, they don’t want to give in so easily. Nevertheless, they know this is their last chance to get some cash for David since next summer he’ll be gone for free.
With less than two weeks for the market close, it’s in everyone’s best interest to solve the situation as soon as possible. United already have Romero as his replacement and holding out to transfer deadline won’t make them get more money for him.
For Real Madrid, it’s a matter of getting some stability in the keeper position, as supposedly De Gea’s future is directly linked to Keylor Navas’. Let’s hope Mendes does what he does best.
