Manchester United and Arsenal target confirms a deal is in place

Morgan Schneiderlin claims that he is inching closer to a move away from Southampton.

According to The Guardian, Arsenal or Manchester United are likely destinations, as is Tottenham who had a deal in place for the Frenchman last summer only for the transfer to be canceled at the last minute.

Schneiderlin spoke to France Bleu Alsace radio station while visiting his former club Strasbourg. He told the station that he expects a move to materialize soon.

“The negotiations are ongoing and should be completed in the coming days, hopefully before the resumption of training next week.”

Southampton is looking for a fee of close to £25 million. For the past month, Manchester United has been considered the favorites to sign Schneiderlin, although that might have changed.

Arsenal have increased their interest in Schneiderlin and various Southampton fan forums are claiming that Arsenal is in fact the club who has agreed a £25 million fee with Southampton. This is from the same forum that first reported the Calum Chambers transfer last season.

Arsene Wenger is a known admirer of Schneiderlin and the two already have a cordial relationship. Wenger tracked Schneiderlin when the midfielder was a teenager with Strasbourg and tried to sign him before Southampton did in 2008.

Schneiderlin would be a good addition to the Arsenal squad. He would provide competition and depth in the defensive midfield position. He could also play next to Francis Coquelin if a certain match called for it. Arsenal is looking to strengthen the defensive midfield depth of the squad this summer and Schneiderlin would certainly add quality.
