Unfortunately for Manchester United fans, it feels inevitable that David De Gea is leaving the Red Devils. Because this is such a strong rumor, it is no wonder that there are goalkeepers rumored to be going the other way and joining United.
While this rumor did begin earlier this month it did resurface today as Metro reports United are prepared to offer a swap deal (with Antonio Valencia going the other way) in order to get the Uruguayan goalkeeper.
Let’s not focus on what the loss of Valencia will mean to United, instead, let’s see what gaining Fernando Muslera would mean for Manchester United.
United plan to sign Muslera by offering Valencia
And, let’s get to the point quickly. If he’s coming to replace David De Gea and be the starting goalkeeper for Manchester United, it’s not a good move at all. While Fernando Muslera is a good goalkeeper, he is inconsistent, and makes several mistakes.
And when he is being consistent his best is not close to David De Gea’s best. In fact, Victor Valdes is a better goalkeeper than Muslera, and if he can be more consistent than showed against Hull, Valdes would even be a better option than Muslera.
Don’t get me wrong, he’ll be a good player to have, but as a squad player. He is nowhere near the level of what United need when it comes to a great goalkeeper, and United fans should still be hoping that David De Gea doesn’t go anywhere if Muslera will be who they get to replace him. Metro isn’t the most reliable of sources, so I don’t thinks this move will happen, and that;s a good thing.
