With Arsenal seemingly set for a finish out of the top-2 in the EPL, Arsene Wenger will reportedly only add star players to his squad this summer. The manager believes that with a few more key additions, Arsenal with thoroughly compete to win trophies next season, Premier and Champions League. With Barcelona’s Pedro Rodriguez out of favor in Spain, Arsenal, along with a few other suitors have been eyeing the winger.
While Arsenal have a surplus of central midfield talent in the likes of Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere, and Aaron Ramsey, they lack somewhat in the direct attacking threat on the wings. Alexis Sanchez has obviously flourished since his move from Barcelona last summer, and Pedro will look to follow in his footsteps. With a hugely underwhelming return of Theo Walcott and prolonged injury to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Pedro would certainly receive a warm welcome in North London.
Behind Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi, and Neymar, Pedro hasn’t seen much playing time recently and is most likely on his way out of Camp Nou this summer. Pedro excels in off ball runs and interchanging play with the midfield and forwards, but lacks creativity and desire to take players one on one, something that Arsenal desperately need. Alexis is the only player that will do this, and he doesn’t like to very often. Walcott used to be influential in this area, but seems wary of re-injuring himself and is very tentative when going into challenges.
Pedro is a very cool finisher of the ball though, as his movement off the ball often finds himself in on goal with just the keeper to beat, which he does more often than not. Although Arsenal need to add a winger of quality, I don’t believe Pedro is exactly what they want. With Barcelona slashing the price on to a mere 10.8 million, Arsenal would be keen to hop on the opportunity with teams like Manchester City lurking.
