According to the Daily Mirror, Manchester United are planning a swoop for Paris Saint Germain star Edinson Cavani as a replacement for Robin van Persie.

It would be fair to state that Robin van Persie single handedly guided Manchester United to the Premier League title back in 2012 after scoring 30 goals for the Red Devils during his debut season.

The campaign turned out to be Sir Alex Ferguson’s last at the helm of Old Trafford and since the Scotsman’s depature, things have not been the same for either United or indeed van Persie.

United’s spectacular downfall has coincided with van Persie’s loss of form and the striker has despite the arrival of compatriot Louis van Gaal over the summer, the Dutch striker has not been able to reproduce his best.

Therefore, it has been widely claimed that United will be looking to offload van Persie – who is one of the highest earners at the club, next season and a lucrative move to Turkey has already been touted for the 31-year old.

Now to fuel further speculation regarding van Persie’s potential exit from Old Trafford, the Daily Mirror claims that the Red Devils are eyeing a swoop for £40million-rated Edinson Cavani as a replacement for the Dutchman.

Cavani is reportedly unsettled at the Parc des Princes and a move to the Premier League has been mooted for the striker, with Chelsea said to be interested. Now, Manchester United have also joined in the race to sign the 28-year old and a move could well be on the pipeline during the upcoming summer.
