Sporting Lisbon manager Marco Silva has revealed that winger Nani will be returning back to Manchester United at the end of the season.
Nani joined Sporting on a season long loan transfer during the summer as part of the deal taking Marcos Rojo to Old Trafford and it was widely believed that the 28-year old would be ending his association with United by eventually turning the move into a permanent one.
Since making a move back to Portugal though, Nani has found a new lease of life and there have been murmurs that manager Louis van Gaal would be keen on keeping hold of the winger’s services next season.
Now to confirm that Nani will be returning to United at the end of the season, Sporting manager Marco Silva has gone on to reveal that the loan agreement had been made for only a single campaign and revealed that the winger will not stay at the Estádio José Alvalade next year – as his side will not be able to afford the 28-year old’s wages.
Speaking to O Jogo, Silva said, “The president was clear: the player is on loan for a year and has conditions (salary) that are not supportable.”
Nani has been in fine form this season, scoring 11 goals as well as providing 8 assists in 32 appearances for Sporting and his return will certainly be welcomed by the Manchester United fans.
