Strongest Possible Lineup: Manchester City vs Burnley

The reigning Premier League champions got back to winning ways against Leicester City. Burnley are the same caliber team as Leicester, but teams at the bottom must fight for every point available. Should City not cash in on a few early opportunities, Burnley will grow in belief, and the game will be that much more difficult.

It is imperative that City not overlook this match with a Champions League fixture in midweek. How focused Manchester City come into the match could be a deciding factor in the outcome.

Goalkeeper

Joe Hart kept another clean sheet last outing, and expectations should remain the same. City are likely not to concede a goal against a team like Burnley, and it could also serve as a catalyst for Kompany’s confidence to return.

Defenders

Kompany will start and captain the side. Unless injury or suspension keeps him out of the side, he will certainly be the first defender selected off the team sheet.

Demichelis could very well see some action. Pellegrini seems to be easing Mangala into the side, allowing the veteran Demichelis start several matches. It will be interesting to follow the dynamic between the two players. The rotation does give rest to the aging Demichelis and does not overwhelm the younger Mangala. Look for the two players to both be used in their current for the rest of the season.

Zabaleta is the best outside back City have, so unless the manager chooses to rest him before the match against Barcelona, expect to see Zabaleta suited up and ready to go. Sagna may get an appearance against Burnley. He does provide some valuable experience, and in a game where concentration could be lacking, his many years playing in the Premier League could prove invaluable.

Midfielders

Yaya Toure will most likely start. He has been very much missed while away on international duty, and he should expect to get another start. City would be wise to play James Milner in the number ten role. He has voiced displeasure with the current number of starts and his position on the field.

Milner has been an integral part to this squad for the past couple years, and a game against Burnley would certainly be the place to throw Milner a bone. Quite frankly, he can play the number ten role, and it’s just a matter of managerial preference at this stage.

Nasri and Silva will also most likely start, both providing creativity on the wings. Although don’t be surprised to see Jesus Navas come into the side in favor of one of the outside players.

Forwards

Aguero is the top part of a very strong City spine made up of Hart, Kompany, Yaya Toure, and the striker. He terrorizes a defense like very few players in the world are able to do.

Aguero is a special player, and he often digs City out of very deep holes. With Jovetic linked with an imminent move to Inter Milan, this may be a chance to showcase the outcast striker in order to drive up the price.
