Despite being linked with a host of names throughout January, it was an underwhelming transfer window for Manchester United.
United purchased only three players during the window in the form of Victor Valdes, Andy Kellett and Sadiq El Fitouri, and virtually spend nothing throughout the month on new recruits.
Manager Louis van Gaal was insistent of the fact that he would not be spending big in January but it is widely expected that the Dutchman will once again bring out the cheque book during the summer.
As a result, a few names have already started being linked with a move to United over the past few days and according to reports, it has been claimed that van Gaal wants to sign PSV Eindhoven star Memphis Depay at the start of next season.
Depay starred under van Gaal for the Dutch national team during the World Cup and it was widely expected that the 20-year old would be joining the Red Devils along with the current United boss.
However, Depay decided to stay put at PSV in order to continue his development as a player and his decision seems to have been justified as he has been absolutely magnificent this season, scoring 19 goals in 25 appearances so far.
With Depay proving that he is one of the best talents available out there, it has been claimed by reports that van Gaal will now be pulling out all the stops in order to land the youngster.
A fee of around £10million has been touted for Depay by the media but considering that he is tied down to PSV till 2018, the Dutch side will probably hold out for a higher fee.
Nonetheless, Depay is an extraordinary talent and he would certainly be a wonderful signing for the Red Devils in the summer.
