Ever since his debut less than a year ago, clubs all over Europe are pursuing the next football superstar. Compared to Messi and even Ronaldo, Martin Ødegaard can finally settle one of 2014’s hottest pursuits. After training with a large list of top clubs including Bayern, Manchester United, Chelsea and many others, he decided to become a Real Madrid player.
While it’s not officially confirmed, many news outlets in Spain like AS or Marca are talking about the announcement.
The Norwegian teen would arrive this week and sign for the World Champions. The fee would be around €3 million and would link him to Los Blancos until 2018. His salary and other contract details haven’t been revealed, and with this being a minor, it’s likely it won’t be disclosed soon.
Despite his physique not being as developed yet, his mentality and attitude is far more mature than your average teenager. With a lot to prove once he plays at the top level, he still has managed to prove he can carry a team. He’s the example for all kids out there, as Martin isn’t only a promising player, but a role model to inspire more talent to emerge from Norway and everywhere in the world.
Also not confirmed yet is his actual place in the club’s system. Rumors fly around about the possibility of alternating Real Madrid Castilla (youth team) and the first team. This would be of great help for ZInedine Zidane, as he looks to take the team back to the Liga Adelante. In addition, Carlo Ancelotti could even use the youngster to rest any member of the BBC. The better he gets to know the philosophy of the club, the faster he can start giving results.
Only time will tell if all this effort and money was worth it in the end. For now, it’s better for Real to have Ødegaard than watch a direct enemy signing the most promising player in Europe.
