Shock as Manchester United get rid of midfielder despite the transfer window slamming shut

The transfer deadline day usually serves up a lot of drama but apparently, things can also get interesting after the window slams shut as evidenced by Tom Cleverley moving from Manchester United to join Aston Villa today.

It was widely reported that Cleverley would be joining Aston Villa last night after having a £8million bid for the midfielder accepted by United.

However, the move did not come into fruition as Villa were unwilling to match Cleverley’s wage demands and it looked like the England international would stay put at Old Trafford.

Tom Cleverley joins Aston Villa on loan

In a shocking turn of events though, it has now been revealed that Villa have been granted special ratification to go ahead with the transfer despite the window slamming shut last night and have in fact been able to complete the signing of Cleverley on a season long loan deal instead.

Cleverley made his way through the United academy into the first team and was expected to become a mainstay in the Red Devils’ midfield for years to come.

Cleverley will be looking to revive his career at Aston Villa

But the young man was never really able to cope with the pressures of playing for a big club such as United and his average performances allied by the club’s struggles in recent times meant that the midfielder would be subject to constant vilification from his own fans.

Therefore, a move away from Old Trafford to join Aston Villa looks like the perfect opportunity for Cleverley to revive his career and he will certainly be desperate to prove his worth at Villa Park this season.
