James Rodríguez
The Colombian just arrived for a hefty fee, but nobody should doubt that he’s got the talent to succeed. He’s young and that gives him more room for patience. Nevertheless, for a price tag like his, he needs to impress this season or he will stop being important for the team.
Gareth Bale went through the same thing last year. For the Welshman, it was tough at the beginning, but with important goals he was able to be key in the two titles won. James doesn’t need to learn a new language and that’s good for him. He seems to be very humble and his teammates have been welcoming.
Still, the #10’s problem isn’t adapting to the country or culture, but adapting to Ancelotti’s system. Carlo likes players who understand the balance of good defense and good attacking. James hasn’t shown a lot of sacrifice yet, but he can definitely learn. The Bernabéu is happy with his signing, but he needs to earn the love and respect.
If Di María ends up leaving, his biggest competition will be Isco. The Spanish prodigy slowly understood Ancelotti’s idea. He sacrificed himself and showed his worth in the two title finals last season. If James wants to be important, he needs to show it on the field. It all comes down to Ancelotti and him to find his best position, as his talent will show depending on that.
