Chelsea took part in a one-day tournament in Turkey on Friday, ahead of their clash with Ferencvaros on Sunday. The Blues will take on their Hungarian opposition on August 14 at 11:45 AM PST (2:45 PM EST).

Having disappointed in Germany a week ago against Werder Bremen, manager Jose Mourinho will surely be looking for a better performance out of his squad on Sunday. The Londoners were defeated 3-0 at the hands of Bremen last Sunday. With the team essentially at full strength, the result had to have been troublesome for the Chelsea boss.

Chelsea Team News:

Chelsea got back on the right track Friday with a 2-0 victory over Fenerbahce, followed by a 1-0 defeat to Besiktas. Both fixtures were 45 minutes long, and were a part of a mini tournament benefitting families of victims involved in a May 2014 mine explosion. The scorers in the first match were new addition Diego Costa and defender Branislav Ivanovic.

The second match went in favor of Besiktas, but Chelsea were again the better side. The English side displayed their quality in both matches, looking much more sound in the back than they did against Werder Bremen. The reality that Diego Costa has scored two goals this preseason must be encouraging for the team as well, who have failed to find a consistent goal-scorer after Didier Drogba’s departure in 2012.

Chelsea will face one more opponent this preseason following the clash with Ferencvaros, squaring off with Real Sociedad on Tuesday, August 12.

Ferencvaros Team News:

The 28-time Hungarian League champions play host to English giants Chelsea on Sunday, which will probably be the highlight of their season. Ferencvaros have failed to win the league, dating back to 2003. By no stretch are they a weak side, but the talent gap between these two teams is definitely significant.

Nicknamed The Green Eagles, Ferencvaros have made several appearances in both the Champions League, as well as the Europa League this current season. Regardless of the result, it will be a good test for the minnows from Hungary, who have a 25% record against English opposition in their 115 year history.

Prediction:

With all due respect to their Hungarian opponents, Chelsea are the superior side in this encounter. The English Premier League season is approaching very quickly, making it all the more important that the Blues are on top of their game. After their positive play on Friday in Turkey, I fully anticipate Chelsea to come out and take care of business. Chelsea will defeat Ferencvaros 3-0.

This match won’t be televised on beIN Sports USA.
