Willy Caballero signs three-year-deal with Manchester City

Last summer, the arrival of Manuel Pellegrini started new era at Manchester City. Although the money is no object for club’s owners, the time of big spending was over and Chilean only brought couple of players in the past two transfer windows.

Martin Demichelis, who managed to become member of the starting lineup, is one of the manager’s favorites. They cooperated in Malaga for three seasons and this transfer window saw one more favorite of the Chilean to arrive in blue side of Manchester.

Argentinean goalkeeper, Willy Caballero, moved from Malaga to Manchester City on Tuesday. The goalkeeper (who helped Malaga reach quarterfinals in Champions League in season 2012/13), will fill the void left by departure of Costel Pantilimion to Sunderland. Caballero was very happy with the move and he shared his impression over twitter.

His career started in Boca Juniors, where he never he got real chance to impress. For three years he earned only 15 appearances for club and was sold to Elche. There he spent seven seasons (one on loan in Arsenal Sarandi), prior to move to Malaga.

As a proven goalkeeper, he was included in the starting lineup from the very first day, and for two and a half seasons, he featured in 117 games.

Now starts new chapter in his life and career, since he will have to compete with Joe Hart for the place among the posts.

During the previous campaign, Englishman faced some time on the bench, since Pellegrini wasn’t satisfied with his displays during the mid-season. Therefore, a shadow of doubt hangs over the future of Joe Hart. The English number one certainly won’t settle for substitute role, so arrival of Caballero will probably give the best of him in preseason.

Only time will tell, but City now has two very good options between the posts and it’s up to Pellegrini to choose who will be his number one for the start of the next season.
