He becomes the second signing of Louis Van Gaal’s management and is not expected to be the last of the signings in this summer transfer window. Luke Shaw will undoubtedly be United’s first choice left back with Patrice Evra as back-up, Evra having signed a new one year deal recently. Shaw will continue his meteoric rise to the top, and he is at a fantastic place now to nurture his incredible talent.
Ryan Giggs, assistant manager of Manchester United said “Luke is a very talented young left-back with great potential. He has developed immensely during his time at Southampton and has the attributes to become a top player. I am delighted he has joined Manchester United as I believe this is the right club for him to continue his development as a young player and eventually fulfill that promise.”
After completing his switch to United, Luke Shaw said: “I am thrilled and excited to be joining Manchester United. I have been at Southampton since I was eight years old and I would like to thank them and the fans for everything they have done for me”.
“I want to continue to progress my career and joining United is the ideal place for me to do that. I am looking forward to this new chapter in my life and also looking forward to learning from the world-class players and management at the club.”
After finishing 7th in the league last season, signings were definitely needed this summer if United were going to catch up on their domestic counterparts. Chelsea have already made some key signings, and after Ander Herrera and now Luke Shaw, United look to be on the right path to revitalizing a squad in dire need of a quality injection.
