It is being reported by Sky Sports, among other sources, that David Luiz has been sold to Paris St. Germain. Chelsea and PSG have agreed to terms in a transfer fee being reported anywhere between 40 and 50 million pounds for the Brazilian.

David Luiz has been criticized for his playing style numerous times when playing as a center back. Chelsea played him more as a holding midfielder this year and he looked a lot more comfortable in my opinion.

Luiz has terrific ball skills and is able to pick out a pass as well as shoot from long range. I think he will be a big loss for Chelsea but now Chelsea must utilize the money to strengthen the team.

Chelsea need to bring in a striker or two who can come in and score goals. A majority of the goals were scored by their midfielders this season and if Chelsea can improve up top, they can make a serious run at the Premier League title, as well as the Champions League next season.

PSG were recently fined for violating UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations. PSG lost in the quarterfinals of the Champions League this past season and are looking to build upon that and make a serious charge at winning it all. I think Luiz is a great signing and brings something that they did not have before on the squad.

Luiz can play as a holding mid and sit in front of the back four and defend as well as initiate counter attacks. He can play further up the field if needed and can play similarly to that of Yaya Toure. And he can also play at center back and even play alongside his Brazilian teammate Thiago Silva now.

I think Luiz is a world class player and Chelsea’s loss is PSG’s gain. Mourinho was never too fond of Luiz and it showed in his sporadic playing time. As a Chelsea supporter, I am disappointed in losing one of my favorite players in Luiz but if the money is used to help bring in a world class striker or two to help the club, then I will have to accept the Luiz loss.

The Summer transfer window opens June 10th, just before the World Cup begins. We must now all wait and see exactly what Chelsea does in the window with the money from this transfer and the money from Roman Abramovich, the owner.

Mourinho has said he would wait to conduct business until after the World Cup is finished, so Chelsea fans like myself are set to be waiting a while before this money is used.
