For the last game of the Premier League, Chelsea will travel to Cardiff City in an attempt to finish the season on a high note. After the Manchester City win on Monday, Chelsea were officially knocked out of title contention. Manager Jose Mourinho may be looking to send out a weaker side in hope to keep young talent some playing time.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
In previous games the formation has been hard to determine. With nothing on the line however, Mou will put out what he know’s best.
Goalkeeper: Mark Schwarzer
Starting keeper Petr Čech is out with injury and has just completed shoulder injury. Over the past few weeks Schwarzer has shown why is he is the backup keeper; little mistakes made between the two posts have cost Chelsea extremely influential points. Nonetheless, the 41 year old veteran is the best option Chelsea have at this point. Could this be his last game at Chelsea with a possible return of Thibaut Courtois?
Right Back: Cesar Azpilicueta
In contention for the player of the year at Chelsea, the Spaniard has shown he is capable of the toughness presented in the Premier League. Mourinho will be looking to get one more strong performance out of him to end the season.
Center Backs: Gary Cahill and Tomas Kalas
Cahill has earned the reputation this year as a reliable defender who seems to have learned much from his fellow colleague John Terry. Kalas made an appearance against Liverpool two weeks ago and showed himself to be an exciting promise. The young Serbian is hopeful to make his presence known at the Chelsea.
Left Back: Ashley Cole
Cole had an exceptional game against Norwich last week. His runs forwards brought nostalgia to long-time Chelsea fans. His play at the back must surely earn him another start.
Center Defensive Midfielders: Frank Lampard and Nemanja Matic
Dare I say this is Lampard’s last game? The same question arose last year and it can only be getting closer to his retirement from Chelsea. Without any pressure this game, Lampard could play this one out at his pace and control the game. Matic is potentially Lampard’s replacement and has shown much promise this year. Despite his lack of creatively, his box to box style controls the pace of the game.
Left Wing: Andre Schürrle
The German international has shown spurts of brilliance this season. With a lack of consistency, Mourinho is still trying to determine the risk of starting him.
Center Attacking Midfielder: Willian
Like Schürrle, Willian has shown bursts of the spectacular but is still looking to secure his style of play at Chelsea.
Right Wing: Mohammed Salah
The Egyptian winger has certainly shown his pace in the Premier League. He too, has yet to make his way completely into the starting lineup. It will be interesting to see what happens to him this summer.
Striker: Fernando Torres
The Spaniard will end another rough season. Stamford Bridge has been extremely welcoming to the forward but he is still yet to produce what his price tag suggested. Maybe he is just a late bloomer.
