The Toluca vs Xolos Tijuana second-leg quarterfinal playoff match will be held this Sunday, May 4, 2014 (10:00 AM Pacific) at the Estadio Nemesio Diez. Choriceros and Xolos will look to advance into the semifinals of the Clausura 2014 ‘liguilla’ in their goal to reach the grand final. In the first-leg, neither team was fortunate enough to score, therefore the aggregate is at 0-0.
In the first game of this quarterfinal series, Xolos of Tijuana played an almost perfect game defensively and on the midfield. To their great misfortune, they had a terrible offensive performance which saw them miss at least seven clear goal scoring opportunities. With the 0-0 score, Tijuana missed a good chance to go into Toluca with a nice sum of goals, and now they will be forced to tie with goals, or win.
The team coached by Jose Saturnino Cardozo was fortunate to not conceive a goal, yet they must be careful this Sunday as they have not played in great form since losing the CONCACAF Champions League final to Cruz Azul a couple weeks back. Toluca will have the support of their fans, plus they count with the best home record this season; 20 points.
The winner of the series will qualify into the semifnals, and will establish themselves as a very strong title contender. If Toluca qualifies, they will face Club Leon in the next round. Xoloitzcuintles will face either Santos Laguna or the winner between Pumas and Pachuca.
Toluca vs Xolos Tijuana Prediction
Coach Cardozo made it very clear following the first game that they had a difficult time adjusting to the Estadio Caliente’s synthetic field. This Sunday, Toluca will not have any other excuse to not play offensively, therefore expect the Diablos to dominate the match on all the lines.
Xolos of Tijuana will attempt to play like they did on Thursday, however, they must convert on offense as they will be forced to score on this game. The border team will look to propose, however, they recent history of negative results on the road will be more than evident against the best home team in the Clausura 2014. In a good game, Toluca will pass into the semifinals; Toluca vs Xolos of Tijuana will end 3-1.
