Why Giggs Must Become the Next Manchester United Coach

If anything at all can be taken away from the tumultuous 10 month period in which David Moyes took charge of United, it is that the ability to inspire and motivate a group of highly paid professionals has to be of paramount importance to successful management.

In Giggs They Trust

While it seems increasingly apparent that United will look for an ‘experienced’ foreign manager in the summer, Giggs ticks pretty much every other box. As well as having a trophy cabinet that can’t be rivaled, he also commands the respect of fellow professionals and has an attitude seemingly tailored for success.

Giggs would be extremely popular among United fans as a permanent appointment, lending more basis to the idea that United are a ‘family club’. He will receive the backing of all the staff at the club and with the ‘class of ‘92’ as his right hand men, experience of big game situations is hardly going to be lacking in the dressing room.

What is unknown is Giggs’ ability on the coaching side, but having worked with Quieroz, McClaren, Brian Kidd and Archie Knox, Giggs can boast to have worked with some of the most highly regarded coaches to have graced the English game at club level.

The fact does remain that he has no experience at managerial level, and the role may come too early for him. There is speculation that he may be installed as the assistant to whoever comes in, and that after they move on he will be handed the job. But look at Guardiola and what he achieved at Barca. Giggs has far more in terms of playing experience than the Bayern boss ever had, and he worked for 20 years with the best manager in the world.

Because Moyes had no trophy winning managerial experience, the United board may be wary of allowing Ryan Giggs to take the reigns permanently at this stage, but it’s a potential story befitting of the club if they do.

Would Van Gaal be welcomed and backed around Old Trafford in the same way that Giggs would? It’s extremely unlikely. If he and his backroom staff can win the remaining three matches convincingly, the United board will certainly have food for thought going into what promises to be a very interesting summer period.
