Chelsea think £30m is too much, will settle for £15m Defender instead

According to The Daily Mirror, Chelsea are very much interested in Sevilla left back Alberto Moreno as a replacement for Ashley Cole. Cole’s contract runs out this summer and has played very little this season and is set to depart the club. Moreno is 21 years old and Chelsea are interested in bringing him to Stamford Bridge for an estimated 15 million pounds. Azpilicueta has played a majority of the season at left back, although he is a right back, and with Cole set to leave, Chelsea are desperate to bring in a long term left back.

Luke Shaw has been a target for Chelsea for quite some time now, but it seems that Chelsea are frustrated with the asking price for the 18 year old. The Saints seem to want 30 million pounds, which is double the price of Moreno.

Chelsea need to strengthen the striker position as well, so it looks as if Chelsea are going to give up on acquiring Shaw and attempt to sign Moreno at a cheaper price.

This rumor is coming from The Daily Mirror which is very reliable and thus gets an 8 in transfer strength.

There is no doubt about it, Chelsea need to bring in a left back this summer and Alberto Moreno is a viable option. I think Shaw is a better player, but if Moreno came to The Bridge it would strengthen the club. I give this potential transfer a 7 as far as helping The Blues.

As of now, this transfer looks pretty likely as Chelsea look to have given up on Luke Shaw. Chelsea need a young solid left back and Moreno fits the bill. A lot of big clubs are in for Shaw so his price may rise even more and Chelsea may get Moreno at a reasonable price.

I give the likelihood of this happening at the moment about a 70 percent chance. I still think Chelsea ultimately want Luke Shaw and have not given up yet but Moreno would be a great plan B.
