Arsenal fans voted for Santi Carzola as their Player of the Month for January, after he netted five times in six appearances for the Gunners in the same month. The Spaniard is beginning to find his stride after missing the most part of the first half of the season through injury.

The 5ft 6in 30-year old stood head and shoulder above Wojciech Szczesny and Per Mertesacker, who came in second and third respectively, as he gathered an overwhelming 57.4% of all the votes cast.

Carzola- who has grown in oomph since joining the Gunners from LA Liga side Malaga in summer of 2012 – stepped up to the plate after replacing Theo Walcott, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a ruptured knee ligament.

Arsene Wenger will be hoping that his players put the pedal to the metal as this month will prove crucial in Arsenal’s race to end an 8-year drought without silverware. The Gunners, who are set to face Liverpool this weekend, still have to face Premier League Champions Manchester United and World and European Champions Bayern Munich in February.

With what seems like a congested month with many defining moments, only a good run of form will make the 2013/2014 season an unforgettable season for the Gunners.
