John Terry, the Stamford Bridge veteran center back, is set to agree to an extension of his contract with the club he has served as captain for the past nine years and made over 600 appearances.

The captain has regained the trust of Jose Mourinho this season, appearing in all league games after struggling to come off the bench during Rafael Benitez’s reign.  According to the Daily Mail, the Chelsea skipper will put pen on paper in a deal that will see him remain at the Bridge beyond the end of this campaign.

Last season, the out of favor defender made only 14 league appearances, casting his future at the West London club in doubt.  Since then, Jose Mourinho has boosted his performance and confidence after pairing him with his fellow countryman, Gary Cahill, in the Chelsea back-line. Producing some impressive statistics of goals conceded, including the team’s recent historic clean sheet at the Etihad. The Chelsea Boss has heaped praise on the former England international, claiming he is still the best central defender the country has and said, “I trust John and he trusts me”.

After the fall out with the English Football Association on the Anton Ferdinand race row, the 33 year old has been on the bad end of the country’s media, but it will be interesting to see how he will work to turn the tide to his favor once the stay at the capital is extended.
